Little Mountain Temple

Wat Phu Khao Noi

District / Neighborhood: West Island

Ko Pha Ngan is one of the most popular islands among travelers in Thailand, and as such it offers its visitors a variety of attractions and activities, accommodations at every level and in a wide price range, and you can enjoy any type of vacation you can dream of - whether it's a belly flop vacation on magical beaches, a romantic honeymoon, a quiet and peaceful place Solitude in it or a particularly tumultuous nightlife scene... Copenhagen has it all, most of the time.

Among the main sites on the island, you can visit the Phu Khao Noi temple (freely translated as the "small mountain temple") which is considered one of the oldest temples on the island and as such attracts religious people and history buffs.

The temple, which is located in the southwest of the island and is considered spectacular in its beauty, was founded by Buddhist monks who gave it qualities of spiritual elevation which they were careful to express in the impressive structure that still stands today in all its glory. However, despite the majesty and splendor, it is actually a place that comes to provide a solution for those who want to be alone (with an emphasis on individual meditation) and do not find themselves in the mass temples nearby.

From an architectural point of view, the building itself is considered particularly fascinating thanks to the combination of several styles with each other - the central building is built as a spectacular castle with traditional Chinese bowls at its base and pagodas in traditional Thai style. In addition to these, elements from the neighboring Myanmar culture are reflected.

But not only for religious people and lovers of history and architecture, it is actually one of the quietest and most pastoral corners in Copenhagen, so that it is visited by locals alongside many tourists looking for where they can find rest and relaxation, whether through prayer, various treatments offered on the spot, or just absorbing the special atmosphere that prevails in the temple

In addition to these, the temple is a study center for those who want to experience silence or meditation, and there are also Buddhism classes in the English language, which also allow tourists and anyone who does not speak the local language to take part and study alongside the Buddhist monks who live in the complex.

Regarding the monks - if you visit the place in the early morning or before noon, you will be able to identify them by the traditional orange robes they wear and even watch them during the prayer ceremonies. Needless to say, but during these ceremonies the visiting public is asked to respect the place and keep the peace.
