Waterfalls in Copenhagen

while Schopenhagen famous for The full moon parties Its wildness, it actually offers much more - peaceful beaches, natural waterfalls, lush and wild jungles and more. Whether you book a day trip to a waterfall to explore the wonders of nature, or just rent a moped and go out for a day of discovery on your own, we are sure you will have an amazing time getting back to nature and wading in refreshing and magical waters. Below are five perfect waterfalls to visit in Copenhagen, which are a great option for those who want to take a break from the parties, and simply connect with nature and the flow of water.

Phaeng Waterfall - Phaeng Waterfall

Phaeng waterfall is right in the heart of the island, and is perhaps the most impressive waterfall of the island and therefore also the most famous. Phaeng Waterfall is located in Thansadej National Park, and actually consists of two parts: Phaeng Noi (small), and Phaeng Yai (big). The choice of which part you will tour depends on you and your sense of adventure.

Phang Noi is really easy to get to, as it is located near the entrance to the park. This is the smaller part of the series of waterfalls, and it has a pool where you can dip. If you like to extract bones, take the steep and challenging route, only 250 meters long, to reach Phang Yai. Here you will be welcomed by a powerful waterfall flowing down the cliff amidst an abundance of lush vegetation.

Despite being the largest waterfall on the island, Phang Waterfall can still dry up towards the end of the dry season. It is highly recommended to check with the locals what the weather has been like lately, and whether they think there will be a flow in the waterfall or not.

If you want to continue your jungle trip, you can continue to the viewpoint of Dom Silla, and even further until you reach the viewpoint of Mount Khao Ra (the highest point on the island), this wonderful peak offers a spectacular and wide view of the island and the ocean.

Paradise Waterfall - Paradise Waterfall

The easiest and most accurate way to describe the paradise waterfall is simply - fun! Paradise Waterfall also known as Nam Tok Phaen is the place to reconnect with your inner child.

Similar to Phaeng Waterfall, here too there are two parts consisting of a main pool at the bottom of the falls, and the waterfall itself which is a forty minute walk into the jungle. The main pool can be reached from the right of the Kika Splice restaurant ( Kika Space), and swing with the local children on one of the tarzan ropes hanging from the trees near the pool.

All the fun happens in the pool, where you can refresh yourself or jump between the ropes like monkeys. If you get tired, you can go on a trek towards the main waterfall which is a spectacular sight in itself, and there you can also wade in the pool of the waterfall's water. Getting to Gan Eden Waterfall is accessible, and it is located along Chaloklum Road, just five minutes from Phang Waterfall.

Sramanora Waterfall - Sramanora Waterfall

Sarmanura Falls got on the map thanks to the line of legendary jungle parties that take place on site. Techno and dance celebrations throughout the night in a beautiful natural environment are one of the most prominent attractions in Copenhagen. Of course you can visit Sarmonera Falls during the day, but unlike most other waterfalls, you can also visit the falls at night. The clear water glistens under the moonlight in a breathtaking and romantic spectacle. There are two pools on the site, a large one on the right side of the trail, and a smaller, more secluded pool that you can find once you cross the river and climb the hill. In the waterfall area there is even a restaurant if you are hungry and it is accompanied by a great view of the entire valley.

To get to the falls head north from Ban Kai Beach, and walk down a small path in front of Yum's Kitchen, or catch a moped to the falls parking lot, where you will begin your journey to the waterfall and pool. The waterfalls are about 500 meters from the parking lot and from there a path winds through rich jungle vegetation - a walk that is beautiful in itself. When you arrive at Sarmonera Falls, spend the day relaxing in the cool water and jungle shade.

Wang Sai Waterfall - Wang Sai Waterfall

Wang Sai Waterfall is in the northwest of the island, near Mae Head Beach. It is located a quarter of an hour's walk from the south beach, it is very easy to get to and there is clear signage that helps guide the way. The waterfall resembles a rockslide, and it is a cascading waterfall. The meaning is that it is not a single waterfall and a uniform stream, but a stream of water that makes its way at different levels. Some of these levels contain pools of water where you can cool off and swim, with the largest pool being at the very bottom.

What makes Wang Sai stand out from the other waterfalls is the dazzling blue color of the water in some evenings, a unique phenomenon that occurs thanks to the sedimentation of chalk under the clear water. The entire area is devoid of any man-made structures or human development, except for a few blue pipes used for irrigation. The natural beauty and no interference of the waterfalls makes them a wild and spectacular area that you don't want to miss.

Than Sadet Waterfall - Than Sadet Waterfall

The last and favorite waterfall is the Thaan Sadet waterfall, and it is one of the most beautiful in Thailand. The waterfall was famously visited by the royal family in 1988, and even preserves a signed inscription left there by King Rama V.

The waterfall consists of boulders of huge granite rocks, and several fresh water pools where you can dip. The water in the waterfall falls in a gradual fall, similar to Wang Sai, and the flow extends for about three kilometers. It is recommended to spend at least half a day in Thaan Saast, start right at the top of the waterfall and walk along its entire length, so you can choose your favorite place to swim. The falls can be reached from Haad Thaan Sadet Beach, so when you're done enjoying the pools you can head back to the beach for some more relaxation.

A few more things to keep in mind

  • The best time to visit one of the waterfalls in Copenhagen is from July to October, the monsoon season. If you are unable to arrive during this period, you should follow the weather forecast and try to visit after a heavy rainstorm. Most of the waterfalls dry up at other times, or the flow of water decreases significantly.
  • Don't forget to always take a drink with you, because most of the waterfalls are in dense jungles, and the high humidity causes a lot of sweating.
  • Be careful where you step! The paths and rocks near the falls can be slippery from the moisture, and often have sharp and dangerous edges.
  • Wear appropriate shoes. Walking in flip flops is a bad idea.
  • For those who love splashing around - don't forget to bring a towel and a change of dry clothes.
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption are prohibited in most of the waterfalls, so before you smoke in the area, check if the site actually allows smoking and alcohol consumption.
  • If you see a fast flowing stream of water, do not try to cross it. The current is probably stronger than you think, and could be very dangerous.
