Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, serves as the gateway to this country that is so popular among Israeli tourists. It's an ancient city, enormous in size, one that blends the new with the old and a vibrant tourism scene alongside the everyday life of a national capital. The fact that it's such a big city is a challenge for tourists, since the decision of where to book a hotel has a major impact on your proximity to the various tourist sites, and the various tourist sites have a major impact on the quality of the hotels near them.

When is the best time to visit Bangkok?

Because of the great abundance it offers and all that goes on in it, Bangkok is a destination for tourists even at times when getting around it can be no simple task, especially compared to other places in Thailand that are considered calmer and more peaceful. In general, the peak tourist season in Bangkok falls between the months of November and March. During this period most of the tourists to Thailand in general, and Bangkok in particular, arrive, and so this is also the period marked by the highest prices for hotels and guesthouses. Another peak in the number of tourists comes in mid-April, when the Thai New Year takes place. During this period you'll find festivals and processions in the city, and the local businesses join in the festive atmosphere as well.

In the months that follow, the number of tourists gradually drops, and with them hotel prices too. That said, thanks to its central location, Bangkok bustles with foreigners even outside the season.

Accommodation areas in Bangkok

Because of its size, Bangkok offers every type of accommodation. From tiny cubbyholes for a pittance, without air conditioning and without a bed frame, all the way to the most upscale luxury hotels. The vast majority of the hotels are concentrated in the various districts surrounding the Khao San district (Khao-San), the famous one (especially among Israeli backpackers and other backpackers from all over the world), as well as those close to Siam Square (Siam Square), known for its many malls. If we focus on three specific parts of the city (and there are many more besides them), we can talk about Khao San, Riverside and the Siam Square area.

The famous Khao San is the district most associated with backpackers, thanks to its many guesthouses, its famous market and its vibrant nightlife. This is also the district where the Chabad house for travelers is located. The intense presence of travelers in the district has led to most of its accommodations being cheap, but their facilities and service match the price accordingly. That said, you can definitely find reasonable hotels and better here, but the atmosphere in the area will still be a backpacker vibe, and its crowds and noise will probably make things harder for older travelers or families, who will prefer other areas of the city.

For those looking for a calmer atmosphere, higher-end hotels and greater proximity to the city's tourist and cultural sites, it's worth considering the Riverside area (Riverside). It's not too far from the Khao San district, and because the river served as a historical center for the city, near it you'll find many of the city's cultural tourist sites. In addition, this area has a concentration of higher-end hotels, which are better suited both to families and to travelers with a higher budget.

For shopping lovers, it's worth checking hotels in the Siam Square area and Sukhumvit. In and around Siam Square you'll find most of the city's large malls, so you can get all the shopping you need done within walking distance of the hotel. Here too the range of hotels is wide, but they lean more toward luxury hotels than toward crumbling guesthouses. If you head toward Sukhumvit you'll come across fewer malls, and the commercial scene shifts to alleyways and small shops rather than giant shopping centers. This is a calmer, less touristy area compared to the bustling Siam Square.

It's important to remember that these are only some of the city's districts that house hotels of various levels. Bangkok is a large and diverse city, and its hotels are suited to the wide range of people who visit it. From young partygoers, through families and older travelers, to businesspeople, the city can offer each and every one exactly what they need.
