The beaches of Kofipi

Tonsai Bay - Tonsai Bay

Tonsai Bay is the main arrival and departure hub of Kopipi: ferries come and go, yachts dock, and cargo and tourist boats go back and forth to the bay carrying tourists or goods. The village of Tunsai is the central village of Phi Phi Don (the main island in the archipelago) and most of the tourist and commercial activity takes place there. Tonsai Bay appears at first glance as a wonderful and beautiful bay, but the water in it tends to be polluted by the movements of the boats. Still, it's a fun place to look around and enjoy the activity around.

Phak Nam Bay - Phak Nam Bay

Pak Nam Bay is located on the east coast of Phi Phi Don. It is a secluded bay with a small beach and a small fishing village. You can get here on foot but it's a long walk over a rough hill. It is much easier and more practical to take a longtail boat. There is only one holiday home on the beach, and for those looking for peace and quiet this is absolutely the place to be.

Laem Tong Beach - Laem Tong Beach

Located on the far northern tip of Phi Phi Don, Lam Tong Beach is beautiful, quiet and secluded as it can only be reached by boat. It takes about 45 minutes to reach it by longtail boat from Tunsai village, and you can sleep in one of the four luxury resorts on the beach. Also, through the hotels on the beach you can schedule water sports activities, or enjoy fresh seafood at one of the restaurants on the beach. Not far from the beach are Mosquito Island, Bamboo Island and Hin Klang - all great and recommended spots for snorkeling.

Loh Dalum Beach - Loh Dalum Beach

Located on the north side of the island. Lo Dalum Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and is considered a tropical garden on earth, although it can get very busy during the more touristy periods. The bay is almost entirely surrounded by limestone cliffs and boasts crystal clear waters and a white sandy beach. Bars on the beach present spectacular fire shows at night and the parties continue until the wee hours of the night, or the wee hours of the morning, depending on which side you look at. The best time for swimming is at high tide, because at low tide the water level on the beach drops, and the beach is filled with shallow water pools where it's also fun to wade and sunbathe.

Monkey Beach - Monkey Beach

Located northwest of Loh Dalam Bay. The hidden cave of Ao Ling (Monkey Bay) is home to a colony of monkeys who do not hesitate to climb on the feet of their visitors in search of a banana or something else to eat. At very high tide there is not much beach left, but the rest of the time you can see and feel powdery white sand that is pleasant to walk on barefoot all day. You can reach the beach by walking, by renting a canoe or by renting a Longtail boat from Lua Dalam.

Long Beach - Long Beach

A quiet and wonderful beach located at the eastern end of the island, where you can find small pubs and beautiful red-orange sunsets. A short swim from the beach will lead you to spectacular and colorful coral reefs which are highly recommended for snorkeling. Getting to the beach is via a short boat ride from Tunsai village. You can also go to the village during the day but the journey includes walking on rocks between beaches or on short jungle tracks. Accommodation here is based almost entirely on bungalows, some of which belong to luxury resorts, and some of which offer basic and cheaper accommodation options.

Bamboo Island

Bamboo Island (or in its official name: Koh Pai - Koh Pai) is a small, flat island located about 5 km from the northern end of Phi Phi Don Island. From Tonsai Beach it takes 45 to 60 minutes to get here by longtail boat, depending on the sea conditions. On the north and east side of the island there are beautiful sandy beaches and a small bar that serves drinks and snacks.

Maya Bay - Maya Bay

One of the most beautiful and famous beaches in all of Thailand. Maya Bay is a shallow bay surrounded by a ring of steep limestone cliffs. The bay has a rich marine biological array, so it is a favorite spot for snorkelers. Maya Bay became famous in the world after the movie "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed there, and crowds of tourists come to Kopipi just to visit this beach. The place is spectacular in its beauty, but not very isolated - on any given day and at any time there will be over 30 boats anchored on the coastline, in addition to large ferry boats carrying hundreds of tourists who come to explore the bay and its coral reefs. It is recommended to arrive early in the morning or after 17:00 to avoid the crowds.

Moo Dee Bay - Moo Dee Bay

A "secret" beach strip located in the southeast corner of Kopipi Don. The stretch of beach stretches along a wonderful 300 meters that combine both coconut trees and thick rainforest. On the beach you can find a pleasant local bar-restaurant, and getting to the bay is relatively easy. You can take a boat from Tunsai (10 minutes sailing) or walk a short and pleasant route of 45 minutes.

Kofipi's beaches are suitable for every taste and are very diverse - some are more crowded and less crowded, some are more suitable for swimming and some are designed for quality snorkeling, water sports, and other adventures. There are secluded beaches with peaceful fishing villages, or beaches packed with tourists, restaurants and fire shows. As always, if you have already arrived it is recommended to enjoy all the worlds and jump from beach to beach, to absorb the atmosphere, the sand and the sun from different angles. The only thing that is probably indisputable is that there is no doubt that you will fall in love with the island and not want to leave!
