Viking Cave

Viking Cave

District / Neighborhood: Northeast of "La" Island

The Koffi Archipelago includes several picturesque islands that are considered spectacular in their beauty, most of which are not part of the tourist menu so even though they are at the peak of the scene, they are still as beautiful and unspoiled as they were. Among the islands and beaches that have opened their doors to visitors from around the world, you can find the island "Don" and the island "La" which are popular among travelers in the region, with jagged cliffs, dense rainforests, tall coconut trees, and a great abundance of local flora and fauna as can be expected from the wild nature of The exotic land.

The island "La", which has gained fame and love from locals and tourists since it participated in the movie "The Beach" in which the famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio starred, offers, in addition to spectacular beaches, great attractions for the whole family to enjoy, such as the popular Viking Cave, which is a testament to the fascinating local history.

Viking Cave, which is located in the northeast of the island of La, lies at the bottom of the high limestone cliff and is one of the most favorite destinations for those who visit the island, especially due to the ancient wall paintings found there, in which various human and animal figures appear alongside newer paintings of boats sail.

The paintings of man and animals are attributed to an ancient period while the paintings of the sailboats were painted according to information by sailors who came across it during storms that washed the shore and during the prolonged stay until they passed, they spent their time painting.

In addition to the spectacular paintings, if you are lucky, you will notice bird nests during your visit to the cave - these are the nests of the palm-winged birds that take advantage of the high recesses in the cave walls to build their nests, thereby helping the chicks' chances of survival and protecting them from the forces of nature.

In order to get to the Viking cave, you will have to go to the pier of Ton Sai beach and take a boat from there. The duration of the voyage is at most about thirty minutes and due to weather conditions and lungs that may be problematic, it is recommended to make this voyage (either upon arrival or departure) during the daytime hours and not wait for darkness.
