The Tong Tau Forest National Park and the magical emerald pool found there are among the most spectacular and special places in Krabi Province, and even if your time is limited, this is an attraction you don't want to miss. This is a natural treasure so beautiful that you will find it hard to believe that it is not man-made, and especially for those who are traveling with their family, it is a one-of-a-kind experience worth spending at least half a day on.
When you arrive at the park, you can choose from a multitude of hiking trails of different difficulty levels, including easy trails suitable for walking with small children, where you will enjoy a wide biological diversity of plants and animals, some of which are in danger of extinction and you will be lucky if you meet them.
One of the most recommended walking routes is a route that extends over a little less than three kilometers, where you will pass a spectacular waterfall and also climb to an observation point from which you can see a breathtaking view of the park and the surrounding forests. In order to reach the Emerald Pool, you will have to detour during this route to a side path that winds through the rainforest and leads to the magical pool. Another option is to go to the pool on a relatively short designated route (about eight hundred meters) that leaves from the entrance to the park.
When you arrive at the Emerald Pool, you will immediately realize that the whole walk was worth it - a spectacular show of deep-colored clear water bordering on the unreal and at a perfect temperature, surrounded by tall ancient trees and natural music playing in the background courtesy of the chirping of birds and the evening sounds of forest animals.
The pool receives its clear water from geothermal spring water that originates in the depths of the jungle and when it drains to this point, they together form the wonderful pool whose diameter does not exceed 25 meters and its maximum depth is 1.8 meters. Those who stay there for a long time will notice that depending on the position of the sun in the sky and the temperature of the water, the water changes its color from gray to dark green.
It is definitely a dreamy place that looks like a little piece of heaven, but don't let all this beauty fool you - the edges of the pool are quite slippery and extra care should be taken when entering and exiting, especially for those wading in the water with children. Also, drinking from the water is strictly prohibited because it has a high concentration of calcium carbonate.
In addition to the pool, you can enjoy fascinating and special natural formations in the park area, a mysterious jungle with all that implies, rivers, lakes, wild vegetation and wild animals - all these make the trip to the forest and the pool a perfect attraction for young people, couples, families and nature lovers looking for a refuge on a hot day and moist
Don't forget to bring a towel, bathing suit and comfortable walking shoes.
