The Coin Museum in Bangkok is a relatively new and definitely atypical Thai experience. The place opened a few years ago and is managed by the local authority. If you decide to escape a bit from the hustle and bustle of the streets, shopping and leisure, you will be able to learn and explore the world history of the most universal and ancient subject - money. From trading methods of the Far East to currency exchange on the African continent, the museum is very diverse and rich. Of course, in accordance with its name, it offers a display of an impressive collection of coins, collected from Thailand and around the globe.
There are many explanations and displays in the place that illustrate and enrich the knowledge about trade, about the production of money, its use and the transformations it went through with human development. Children who visit the place can also enjoy themselves, as it has interactive learning tools such as videos, games and presentations in 3 and 4 dimensions. These demonstrate in an interesting way the use of money since the days of the cavemen, thousands of years ago.
The building is governmental and accordingly modern, and also includes offices and a library. At the entrance to the museum there are changing displays for the benefit of those waiting in line, as well as a souvenir shop and a lovely cafe. The museum conducts 30-minute guided tours, which leave every 20 minutes. The significant advantage is that the entry is free! So are audio tutorials in several languages (there is also Braille!) and the tours with the guides of the place (who unfortunately only speak Thai...). There is no need to reserve a place in advance and the complex is not particularly crowded, so you can enjoy a quiet and interesting tour that will not take up much time.
Opening times - Tuesday to Friday: 16:30-8:30 p.m Weekends and holidays: 18:00-10:00.
