The beautiful view, along with mythological statues and bells, exotic vegetation and a sacred atmosphere make the Golden Mountain Temple a special experience and a destination not to be missed.
history.
The temple was built hundreds of years ago, first outside the city walls, as a home for thousands of lepers who were infected by a severe epidemic that hit the area. The local residents used to stay away and shy away from the place, so much so that the surrounding neighborhood was considered a ghost neighborhood. Near the steps of the temple remains a relic of that dark period - a vessel with the ashes of those who perished that was preserved from the 18th century.
Today the complex is used as a place of prayer and pilgrimage for many believers. Buddhist monks live on the ground floor and work to preserve the place. Many Thais visit the place every day to receive a blessing, ask for requests and above all to feel the magical spirituality of the place.
festival
Every year in the month of November there is a special festival, which the temple hosts Loy Krathong festival. For the occasion he wears red and decorates himself with candles and flags. At that time food stalls, jewelry, toys and many other goods are located at the foot of the temple. Starting in the evening until late at night, the faithful come to celebrate and crowd the place in droves. Keep in mind that the rush can be terrible.
