Tam temple

Wat Suwan Khuha

District / neighborhood: Phanganga

If you are a party lover or looking for a lively city full of attractions and activities - it is recommended to move on... Khao Lak is not the destination for you. On the other hand, if you like beautiful landscapes, spectacular nature reserves with wild flora and fauna, pampering resorts and a quiet and relaxed atmosphere - welcome to heaven on earth.

Khao Lak is a great destination for couples and families who want to get away from the noise and bustle and enjoy a luxurious vacation alongside spectacular nature, viewpoints, waterfalls, temples and breathtaking views.

Among the attractions that can be found in Khao Lak, the Tam Temple (or by its official name Wat Suwan Kuha) is one of the most lovable points that is considered a central and most popular destination among tourists visiting the area. The meaning of the name in free translation is "cave temple" and as its name, it promises a unique experience.

Tam Temple is an unusual temple in the local landscape because, unlike most of the temples and holy places in Thailand, which are characterized by majesty and splendor on the outside, the holiness and unique atmosphere of Tam Temple, is actually received thanks to its simplicity and modesty, at least visually before entering it, since it is located in the heart of a cave cut in the rocks the chalk

Inside the temple, which is an important landmark in the entire district, you can admire a huge golden statue (no less than 15 meters!) of a reclining Buddha, and if you tour the fascinating structure, you will argue that it is not a single cave, but a number of caves branching off from the main structure and containing additional statues. All of them have artificial lighting alongside the light that penetrates from the outside, which together create a mysterious setting thanks to the play of light and shadow.

You can also see in the Chedi cave and an exhibition of sculptures, pictures and handmade ceramic details.

The caves themselves have historical, religious and archaeological value. The entrance to the main cave is from a large square where there are also stalls where you can buy, among other things, food to feed the monkeys on the spot and the transition to the other caves is done via a staircase that is at the back of the main cave and the climb can take 15 to 30 minutes so it is not optimal for small children And those who have difficulty with mobility.

It is important to note that although this is an important and central place that is visited daily by many tourists as well as locals, it is not crowded and as befits a holy place, the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, which makes the visit particularly pleasant. Benches on which you should sit, rest, enjoy the view and soak up the special atmosphere.
