Surin Islands

Surin Island

District / Neighborhood: Andaman Sea

Surin Islands, known for their lovely white beaches, are also considered to be one of the best diving sites in Thailand. They are located in the Mu Ko Surin National Park and attract crowds of all ages. It is an archipelago of five islands within the park with a total area of 135 square kilometers, in Phang Nga province.

The main islands in the archipelago are Ko Surin Nuea (Ko Surin Nuea) and Ko Surin Tai (Ko Surin Tai) which are only about 200 meters away from each other, where the very same distance, with shallow water, is also used as a popular place for snorkeling. The other three islands in the archipelago are Ko Khai, Ko Klang and Ko Ri.

One of the outstanding advantages of the Surin Islands is the work they do to preserve their beauty and uniqueness and unlike other, very crowded islands, they offer unparalleled calm and quiet. Except in a small village, there are no buildings on the islands themselves and they are all dedicated to nature in and around them.

Diving and snorkeling are the main activities on the islands, with the best time for diving being between the months of December and April, when the average water temperature is around 20 degrees and the wind is relatively weak. Between February and April you can see unique species of marine animals, including whale sharks. You can rent snorkeling equipment and diving suits from the visitor center in the park at a reasonable cost and take advantage of everything the islands have to offer during your vacation.

The variety of marine animals of the islands is considered among the most fascinating and special in the world. There are 260 different species of reef fish, 68 species of coral, 13 species of shrimp and more.

Thanks to the shallow and deep waters around the islands, the divers can see some of the most impressive marine species on the entire continent, some of which are particularly rare, such as sea turtles of various types, sharks and more.

In the area Kao Lek itself, from where you go to the islands, there are two other attractions, which are also recommended not to be missed: habitats and hatcheries of turtles, located at the local air force base - Sea Turtle Conservation Center of the Royal Thi Navy. There you can learn a lot about the different turtle species in the place and even feed some of them. It is very good to come with children.

Another tourist attraction is the monkey temple, which is also on the list of sites that should not be missed for those coming to the Khao Lak area. About 4 kilometers from the center Khao Sok National Park (Khao Sok National Park), is one of the most interesting attractions in the area. The Monkey Temple (Wat Tham Phanthurat) is a very prominent tourist attraction, which offers an encounter with over 100 monkeys, who come to the place from the forests that surround it. Travelers, and people of all ages, meet, for the first time, these friendly animals (mostly) who are happy and excited to see them. A well-arranged hiking trail of about 7 km in length, starting from the visitor center, leads directly there. This is an excellent opportunity to see more animals along the way, impressive waterfalls and great nature, which surrounds the entire place.
