Khao Sok National Park

Khao Sok National Park

District / neighborhood: Nachon Panom

Khao Sok National Park is the central and most popular national park in Thailand and as such it attracts every year crowds of curious visitors who enjoy the ancient rainforest which is a habitat for thousands of species of animals alongside spectacular vegetation and unique rock formations.

During your visit to Khao Sok you will be able to observe the limestone cliffs and limestone hills, beautiful waterfalls and wild animals that the direct encounter with them is exciting in itself. In addition to these, you can enjoy walking in the Thai jungle, pass by caves and rivers, and admire the small houses along the waterfront.

Among the animals you can see during your visit to the park (if you're lucky) - gibbons, tapirs, wild boars, and even black bears and Asian elephants that roam freely... but surprisingly, the one that attracts the attention of the visitors is a large flower of Rafflesia kerrii which blooms from October to December and reaches a diameter of up to 80 cm.

But while you won't have any trouble finding the flower if you arrive at the right time of the year, many species of mammals and birds will be hidden from your eyes, especially if you walk the short, well-traveled paths designed for day trips. Also, it is important to know that there are travel agencies that advertise the park as a place where tigers live, but in fact they have not been seen around the park for many years and if there are a few individuals left, they are hiding in the depths of the jungle.

What are you likely to see during your visit to the park? Lizards, snakes and many species of amphibians and birds and above all spectacularly beautiful vegetation and breathtaking views that are second to none throughout Thailand.

You can walk in the area as part of a half-day trip, but those who really want to explore the area will have to stay a little longer - the park, which was established by the Royal Thai Forestry Department in 1980, covers over seven hundred square kilometers (!) including hundreds of terrestrial protected areas to the marine side.

Additional activities throughout the park, including costs:

  • Day trip, rafting (2,500-3,000 baht)
  • Day trip, malls and elephants (2,900 baht)
  • Day Trip, Cheow Lan Lake (10,000 baht)
  • 9,000-day trip (15,000-XNUMX baht)
  • Three day trip (18,000-21,000 baht)

The cost of a private guide for a half-day trip is 1,000 baht on average, with an additional 600 baht if you want to walk in the park at night as well.
