Chatuchak Market, or loosely translated - Bangkok's weekend market, is one of the most popular markets in the capital city of Thailand and one of the best known and largest throughout Asia. As such, the market attracts about 200 visitors every day, mainly tourists but also quite a few locals.
Despite its name and happily, the weekend market is open all days of the week and on the weekends of course, then it reaches its peak and the tourist rush is felt there, so if you want to enjoy a slightly more relaxed atmosphere it is recommended to choose any other time to visit it that is not Friday to Sunday. However, if you want to enjoy all the abundance of stalls - Fridays are the recommended time to visit.
The market is divided into about thirty areas with over 15 stalls where you can find and buy anything and everything at a ridiculous price sometimes - clothes and accessories, silk fabrics, books, antiques, animals and not a few bizarre things like human pulleys.
This is without a doubt the place to go if you haven't yet purchased an authentic souvenir for your loved ones or haven't had your fill of shopping as an attraction, but it is recommended to take into account that due to the enormous size of the market and especially if you want to do a short "market survey" between the various stalls, you should devote time to visiting the place How many hours.
In this context, we would like to point out that although shopping is a fun activity, it is fun when it is, the long walk plus the probable chance that you will get lost from time to time, may be tiring. So, how good is it that in addition to the stalls we mentioned above, there are also quite a few food stalls where you will find traditional Thai dishes (and particularly decadent desserts) at a particularly affordable price that will allow you to eat, rest and gather strength for the rest of your wanderings in the market.
You should also know about the market:
- It is recommended to come to the place with cash. It is true that there are places that accept credit, but most of the stalls operate with cash and this will also help you keep track of your expenses.
- If you are stuck without cash - in the northern part of the market you will find an ATM and money exchange booths.
In order to make it easier to find your way around the market, it is recommended to have a market map where the different areas are listed and in each area a specific type of goods. For example - you will find clothes and accessories in areas 5-6, while you will find antiques in areas 22-26. You can get the map at the information booth at the entrance to the market.
