Birthday celebrations of the Queen of Thailand

Thailand offers its visitors countless colorful events, including Special festivals and various religious or national holidays. Among the important events, and perhaps also the most prominent in the country, one can find the celebrations of the Queen's birthday, aka one of the most interesting and colorful festivals of Thailand, which is mainly celebrated in bangkok, the capital.

Birthday celebrations of the Queen of Thailand

What are you celebrating?

Sirikit, the mother of King Bhumibol (Bhumibol), also known as the "Queen Mother", was born on August 12, 1932. In her adulthood, during the family's stay in Paris following her father's position as the country's ambassador, she met Adoniyadet, who became the King of Thailand in 1946 after His brother's murder. The two were married in 1950, and since then she assumed the role of the king's wife and took part in many state events.

Sirikit's birthday is one of the most important days throughout Thailand and is celebrated every year with colorful, lively and very elaborate celebrations starting in the early morning, when the monks begin them with candle ceremonies. In Bangkok itself, they make sure to mark the event in many different ways and with a multitude of ceremonies, which make the stay in the city at that time an experience like no other.

When do you celebrate?

The Queen of Thailand's birthday, which is celebrated every year on August 12, is also National Mother's Day, just as her son's birthday is National Father's Day, which is also celebrated throughout the country. The Thais mark this, among other things, by giving flowers to their mothers as part of a big celebration in honor of the Queen's birthday. This important day is also a reminder of all the humanitarian and other achievements of the Queen, who is also known to be very beloved throughout the country.

How do you celebrate?

In her honor, many buildings are decorated with decorations and colorful lights and there are also displays of flowers and pictures of the queen. Thai flags fly over public buildings and also over quite a few private houses. In Bangkok, the capital, a festive festival takes place along Ratchadamnern Avenue, between the Royal Palace and the Parliament Building. This is the main event in honor of the Queen's birthday, alongside which, as mentioned, other, more modest (relatively) events are held. It is also customary on that day to give money to charity organizations, to pray for them, to place the jasmine plant spice in homes and to make mothers happy with gifts (and not just flowers).
