How do you get to Kanchanaburi?

The trip to the town from Bangkok takes between two and three hours, which you can do in one of three ways - Car Rental, bus or cab. Buses leave from South Bus Station every 20 minutes (cost: 80-130 baht) and trains leave twice a day from Thonoburi Station (cost: 100 baht).

Tiger Cave Monastery (Wat Tham Sua)

A beautiful monastery located on top of a hill and as such offers a spectacular panoramic view of the valley below. After you climb up the 157 steps (or use the cable car) you will reach the monastery itself, where there is a magnificent chedi (stupa) and a huge Buddha statue that is no less than 18 meters high.

The Death Railway Bridge

A bridge belonging to the Kai River built from components imported from Japan during the occupation but bombed by the Allies in 1945. After the war, the bridge was rebuilt while trying to preserve as much as possible the original components and now every year, at the end of November and the beginning of December, an audiovisual show simulating the bombings is held every night and attracts many visitors.

Thailand-Burma Railway Museum (Thiland-Burma Railway Center)

A museum that follows the role of the city of Kanchanaburi during the Second World War, among other things through photos, representatives and videos of the prisoners who participated in the construction of the railway. Next to the museum is a cemetery where some of the prisoners who died during the construction work are buried (Kanchanaburi War Cemetery).

Mae Nam Khwae Street

A central street where there is a small market with souvenir stalls. It is recommended to combine the visit to the street with the nearby sites, a lunch or dinner or a visit to one of the local pubs.

"Seven Waterfalls" Park (Erawan National Park) 

A beautiful nature reserve with spectacularly beautiful waterfalls that give the place a pastoral look and a sense of peace and freedom. When visiting the reserve, which covers more than 500 square kilometers, you will be able to watch the waterfalls, ski down natural rock slides, climb to the top of the mountain, visit the caves and be impressed by the animals and plants living there.
