Thailand is known, among other things, for the abundance of attractions that it offers that will be enjoyed by young and old, and among the most popular attractions are those that incorporate animals. The photogenic pictures that visitors take smiling next to tiger cubs, monkeys, crocodiles and snakes become viral on social media, which attracts more tourists to these places who want to take part in the direct encounter with the wild animals.
At the same time, behind the impressive photos, there is something hidden A completely different reality of animal trafficking and abuse, incarcerated in extremely harsh conditions, including the extraction of teeth and nails and the use of hard drugs in order to keep them submissive - which for those who are not familiar with this is considered "friendship".
One of the most cruel industries in this regard, are the elephant farms in Thailand that offer visitors a ride on the huge and beautiful creature. But not just riding farms, many businesses across the country keep captive elephants, broken teeth and spirits, for entertainment purposes and as a means of attracting unsuspecting tourists.
Happily, and although in many respects Thailand is a third world country, the cry of the helpless has also reached its provinces and along with the cruelty, rehabilitation farms have also sprung up that set themselves the goal of rescuing as many of the animals that are in captivity as possible and giving them a new life and a renewed faith, as far as possible, in humans those around them.
The Phuket Elephant Rehabilitation Farm is one of these great places. This is actually a farm chain that belongs to their elephant jungle sanctuary and other farms in Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Cosmoy, and all of them offer visitors a pleasant experience alongside the noble animals, including a walk in the thick of the jungle, bathing in the river and feeding. All this without incorporating riding or any other activity that may harm the animals or disturb their peace.
As a souvenir of the extraordinary experience, you will receive photos that will be taken by the local staff during the day (which will be uploaded to the farm's Facebook page) and the money you pay for the tour will be used for ongoing maintenance, food for the animals and the continuation of the sacred work of rescuing more elephants kept in difficult conditions.
This is an experience that is a must for anyone who defines themselves as an animal lover and especially for families with children looking for an unforgettable experience with a huge contribution to animal welfare.
