For lovers of history and culture, one of the most recommended attractions that should not be missed is the fascinating museum Lanna Folklife Museum - Lena Heritage Museum. At the Lena Museum you can experience and learn about the rich culture, lifestyle, traditions and interesting customs of the ancient inhabitants of northern Thailand, the Lena people.

Lena's people and kingdom are on the edge

The kingdom of Lena, also called the kingdom of the "rice fields" existed in the center of northern Thailand between the 13th century AD and the 18th century AD. In the days that preceded this kingdom, there were different kingdoms in the place that alternated one after the other and sometimes at the same time, when in every period of rule the kingdoms competed and even fought with each other, who would rule the region.

In the 18th century the senior chiefs of Helena decided to leave Burmese rule and during this they joined the kingdom of Siam and thus contributed to the outbreak of the Burma-Siam war that took place in 1776-1775.

At the end of the war, the Kingdom of Lena became an independent kingdom controlled by the Kingdom of Siam and remained so until the beginning of the 20th century, when it was separated from its independence and became an integral part of the Kingdom of Siam, today Thailand.

about the museum

In the museum, which is considered the official heritage center of the culture of the Helena people, collections and exhibitions are presented through which you can learn about the long-standing heritage of the locals in the northern region of Thailand and the fascinating and rich history of the city of Chiang Mai in this context, starting from the 13th century AD.
