Bo Sang Artist Village

Bo Sang Umbrella Village

District / neighborhood: Sun Camping

Chiang Mai It is the northern capital of the Kingdom of Thailand and those who have visited it will testify that although it is a large and vibrant city, it runs at its own pace and the atmosphere is so light and relaxed that one can easily make the mistake of thinking that it is a large village and not, God forbid, a city where about a million residents live.

During your visit to Chiang Mai, enjoy yourself from many attractions and activities for adults and children, so it is suitable for a visit of any vehicle and enjoyment is guaranteed. One of the most recommended attractions, which attracts many travelers every day, is a visit to the artists' village Bo Sang, which is at most half an hour's drive from the city.

By visiting the village, you will be exposed to the fascinating lives of the local workshops and the traditions that they managed to maintain and nurture despite the fact that Thailand is one of the most visited countries in the world and as such it is exposed to many cultures including innovative technology and sophisticated equipment.

The locals who live in the village will welcome you with a wide smile and allow you to wander around the area pleasantly, visit the various workshops and factories and get an impression of the work processes, some of which are carried out in exactly the same ways and methods as their ancestors used to be. Among other things, in this way you can visit, admire, enjoy and even purchase the products of sculptors, painters and tailors who create with many and varied raw materials such as oil paints, wood, silk and more.

One of the most special and identified items with the artists' village are charming paper umbrellas that are handmade from a secret combination of tree bark and cotton by a local workshop, which are known for their high quality so that many tourists buy them for their own use or as souvenirs for their loved ones who remain in their countries of origin (hence The full name of the village - Bo Sang Umbrella Village). In addition to umbrellas, you can also purchase special fans in an abundance of colors and decorations at this workshop.

Other workshops located there sell traditional accessories alongside contemporary equipment, and the local painters will be happy to make items for you with a personal design (either one that you purchase on the spot or that you bring with you) - cell phone covers, games, and more. Please note that in the place itself there is a store that sells equipment on which they can paint for you, but the quality of the products is questionable, so it is recommended to prepare for this and bring an item of clothing or anything else with you in advance.

In addition, keep in mind that many workshops and factories will be happy to let you into their premises, but their goal is ultimately to lead you to buy from them, sometimes "by force". In this context, it is recommended to be patient and at the same time plan your route in the village in advance, otherwise you will waste precious time.

How to get there? Every taxi driver is asked to come to the place. This is a central attraction and is known to all.

Important Information - The painters are there until 17:00 every day.
